WickUs Chapter

WickUs is one of the two chapters that Hwarang WICK divided into this year. Although this is our being officially separated, all members have worked diligently to head for a successful 2024-25 term. We consist of 38 dedicated students who strive to support our community from the frontlines and embody servant leadership, or the belief that the main goals of leaders are to serve, at every step. Like our name, WickUs, our primary purpose is to develop together, whether it be within our chapter, our school, or broader communities. 

As a chapter, we aim to aid the students in our school community by providing traffic safety services in front of one of the most used gates and the multicultural children in our regional community by arranging weekly visits to centers in Seonhak, Ansan, and Nonhyeon-dong where we teach them different subjects that are essential to their learning. 

For the coming months, we’re planning to focus on expanding on our existing service opportunities to make them more accessible to our members, though ways such as opening up online sessions or finding additional times to do the activities.

  • Korean Culture Exchange with Ukrainian Refugees

    Hwarang WICK members have been volunteering at the Ansan YT Center to teach Korean culture to the Ukrainian refugees at the center. Since most of the refugees can hardly speak any Korean, the exchange mainly involves physical interactions and activities, such as playing games with one another.

  • Sharing Talents at the Seonhak Service Center

    At the Seonhak Service Center, WICK members will spend their time playing with and showing off their talents to the children. The talents that our members focus on include dancing, chess, and 1 on 1 instrument lessons, such as the drums, violin, and piano, each supporting G9 and up.

  • Academic Teaching at the Vision Center

    At the Vision Center, WICK members spend their time providing academic support and teachings to the multicultural students there. Our members spend these academic teaching hours focusing on various subjects such as Korean, English, and mathematics.

  • GoGreen Campaign

    In order to promote both sustainability and safety, our Hwarang WICK members met at the crosswalks nearby the school campus to encourage walking on our campus.

  • Online Tutoring for Children in Ukraine, Guatemala, and Baengnyeong Island

    To help enhance knowledge of Korean literacy and heritage to children in Ukraine, Guatemala, and Baengnyeong Island, Hwarang WICK members initiated a weekly personalized tutoring program which takes place over Zoom.
